Preparation for Careers & Graduate Programs

Graduate School Advisement

Enjoy doing research? Please follow the link above to learn about attending graduate school.

Medical Careers Advisory Committee

All students, from any major, interested in a health care profession (physician, dentist, optometrist, physical therapist, physician assistant, occupational therapist, podiatrist, veterinarian, pharmacist and others) should seek out one of the advisors of the Medical Careers Advisory Committee. The Chair of the committee is Dr. O’Connell, and additional members are Drs. Erickson, Nayak, Kress, Norvell, Shevlin, Hunt, Hall and Leynes.

Note: medical schools have rolling applications; therefore ideally, students should apply to medical schools the summer before their senior year.

Gateway to Research Careers in Biology

The Gateway to Research Careers in Science: Biology program is a merit-based scholarship and research program which supports and motivates students from groups that are historically underrepresented in the biological sciences, to prepare them for graduate school and research-based careers as biological scientists. Originally called Gateway to Graduate School in Biology (GGSB), it was funded from 2010-2013 by the National Science Foundation through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (NSF-DEB 0933977). It is now funded by TCNJ. The core of the GRCS: Biology program is four years of intensive research mentoring by the TCNJ Biology faculty, combined with a range of supportive programmatic activities. Qualified prospective students who are accepted into the Biology major will be invited to apply.
